Training Practice
Cumberland House is a training practice
GP Registrars and Medical Students: Fully qualified doctors gain special experience of general practice, this includes conducting surgeries, doing home visits and attending special clinics. At all times these GP Registrars are supervised by one of the partners.
Please note: Your medical records may be used for training purposes. If you have any objection to this, you should inform the surgery at your earliest opportunity.
Medical Students: We also have medical students with us from time to time as part of their studies and they can see patients in a clinic. Please tell the receptionist if you do not want to see a student. You will also be informed if a medical student is sitting in with a Doctor.
We are pleased to be involved in the training of future general practitioners. General Practice registrars are fully qualified doctors who have chosen general practice as the career they wish to pursue. They gain valuable experience by being based in the Practice for four months at a time. At all times they provide the same standard of care provided by the other doctors of the practice.
By the nature of the assessment of general practitioners, they may often video record consultations, this is for educational purposes only and helps the doctors improve their skills. If you do not wish your consultation to be video taped, just say so. Your care will not be affected in any way.
Senior doctors, monitoring training standards within the Practice, may occasionally view patient records. If you have any objection to this, you should inform the surgery at your earliest opportunity.

Primary Care Network
Since the NHS was created in 1948, the population has grown and people are living longer. Many people are living with long term conditions such as diabetes and heart disease or suffer with mental health issues and may need to access their local health services more often.
To meet these needs, GP practices are working together with community, mental health, social care, pharmacy, hospital and voluntary services in their local areas in groups of practices known as Primary Care Networks (PCNs). Continue reading about Primary Care Networks on the NHS England website.
